The Basics
Environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance means meeting federal and state regulations designed to protect workers from workplace hazards. In the United States, this is governed primarily by OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) under 29 CFR 1910 (General Industry) and 29 CFR 1926 (Construction).
For contractors, compliance extends beyond OSHA into contractor prequalification networks — ISNetworld®, Avetta®, and Veriforce® — which general contractors and Fortune 500 companies use to evaluate subcontractors before awarding work. A failing grade in any of these networks can disqualify a company from bid lists entirely.
EHS compliance covers four core areas: written safety programs (HAZCOM, lockout/tagout, fall protection, confined space, and others); OSHA recordkeeping (300 logs, 300A summaries, 301 incident reports); safety training (documented, dated, and in the worker’s language); and incident management (investigation, corrective actions, and EMR/XMOD control).
EHS, Inc. manages all four areas for 170+ contractors and businesses nationwide — as a fraction of the cost of a full-time safety manager hire.
