Employee turnover is one of the fastest ways to watch your ISNetworld® grade slip — often before you even notice. Here's how to stay compliant no matter who's on your crew.
Every time a trained employee walks out the door, your ISNetworld® grade is at risk. Most contractors don't realize the damage until they log in and find their grade has already slipped — sometimes right before a bid deadline.
ISNetworld® tracks compliance at the individual employee level. Your RAVS scores and training percentages are calculated based on how many of your current employees have completed required certifications and documentation. When someone leaves, their records go with them — and your compliance percentages drop automatically, even if your safety program hasn't changed.
Here's the math that hurts: if 80% of your crew is trained and compliant and you lose two trained employees, your percentage can fall below ISNetworld®'s threshold before their replacements are even onboarded. For smaller contractors — say, a 15-person crew — losing just three people can swing a grade from A to C in a matter of weeks.

A mid-size electrical contractor — 18 employees, solid ISNetworld® grade — lost three journeymen in a 30-day stretch. No safety incidents. No policy changes. Just normal turnover in a tight labor market. Within six weeks their grade dropped from an A to a C. They lost a pre-bid qualification with a major utility company before they even had a chance to respond.
The fix wasn't complicated. The problem was they had no system to catch it before it happened. By the time they noticed the grade drop, the bid window had already closed.
You don't need a sophisticated platform to protect your grade during turnover. You need a process.
1. Audit your training matrix monthly, not annually. Pull your current employee roster against your ISNetworld® required training list at least once a month. During active hiring periods, do it weekly. Know exactly where you stand before ISNetworld® does.
2. Set a hard 30-day onboarding deadline for certifications. Every new hire needs to complete their required certifications within 30 days of their start date — not 90, not "when we get around to it." Make it a condition of completing the onboarding process.
3. Track expiration dates at the individual level. OSHA 10, OSHA 30, first aid, CPR, equipment-specific certs — these all expire. Build a simple spreadsheet or use your EHS administration system to flag upcoming expirations 60 days out so you're never caught short.
4. Assign someone to own ISNetworld® during hiring surges. When you're onboarding multiple people at once, someone needs to be watching the dashboard. Whether that's internal or outsourced to an EHS compliance partner, the account needs active eyes — not a quarterly check-in.
Most contractors manage ISNetworld® reactively. They check their grade when they need to qualify for a project. By that point, the damage is done and recovery takes weeks — weeks you often don't have.
Proactive compliance means your grade is always audit-ready, regardless of who's on the crew this week. It's the difference between a contractor who consistently clears pre-qualification and one who scrambles to recover after every round of turnover.
The contractors who win the bids aren't necessarily the safest — they're the ones whose documentation is always current. That's a process problem, and it's one that's entirely solvable.

Can I appeal an ISNetworld® grade drop caused by turnover?
ISNetworld® doesn't have a formal appeals process for grade drops due to staffing changes. The only path to recovery is getting new employees trained, certified, and documented on the platform — which takes time. Prevention is far more effective than recovery.
How often should I audit my ISNetworld® compliance during high-turnover periods?
Monthly at a minimum during stable periods. Weekly if you're actively hiring or have recently lost multiple trained employees. The goal is to catch gaps before ISNetworld®'s next scoring cycle reflects them.
Does ISNetworld® differentiate between voluntary and involuntary turnover?
No. ISNetworld® scores your current compliance state regardless of why employees left. It's purely a documentation and headcount calculation — context doesn't factor in.
